Advantages from IMCOPA’s product certification

For the benefit of those IMCOPA customers that are looking to improve the public perception of their performance in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility, here are short descriptions of the two relevant types of certification IMCOPA can offer with its products:

This certification standard was created by Cert ID in 2006 cooperatively developd by the retailer COOP Switzerland, The World Wildlife (WWF) and other industry and public interest groups. It is based on the Basel Criteria for Responsible Soy Production. ProTerra enables responsible corporations to assure their buyers, and ultimately consumers, that their products have been produced sustainable, ethical and responsible. Important NGO demands concerning environmental, economical and social aspects are within the scope as well. Globally active major NGOs have declared their endorsement of the ProTerra Standard. On various clauses ProTerra requirements go beyond the RTRS standard requirements. ProTerra is only applicable for Non-GMO soy.

Non-GMO, IP (fully documented traceability)

In 1999 IMCOPA became the first soy crusher and processor in Brazil to demonstrate by way of independent certification that its entire product range has a maximum of 0.1% GMO content and comes with fully documented traceability all the way back to the reception of soy beans. These criteria not only meet the needs of major European retailers and food manufacturers when it comes to making positive “GM-free” claims but also the demands of NGOs and consumer organizations.

Sedex is world’s largest collaborative platform for sharing responsible sourcing data on supply chains, used by more than 38,000 members in over 150 countries. Like IMCOPA tens of thousands of companies use Sedex to manage their performance around labour rights, health & safety, the environment and business ethics.
Sedex is a not for profit membership organization that aims to improve ethical and responsible business practices in global supply chains.
As part of the SEDEX membership IMCOPA is successfully passed the SMETA audit.
SMETA is one of the most widely used social audit procedures in the world. It provides a globally-recognised way to assess responsible supply chain activities. SMETA stands for Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit. SMETA 4-pillars audit focusses at four pillars: labour rights, health & safety, the environment and business ethics.

IMCOPA is member of inSYTE. inSYTE is the system for supply chain transparency and registration of IP Non-GMO ingredients and products. inSYTE is a platform final approval of Non-GMO Risk Ingredients, offering the services of GMO experts to retailers.
The ingredient is risk assessed and approved for use through either a review of third party Non-GM certification or an assessment of the supplier’s Identity Preserved System (“IP”) through a Document Based Review(s) (“DBR”).  Finished Food Manufacturers and Retailer Technologists are able to access a real-time, searchable list of ingredients (GM Risk Ingredients) which have been approved by inSYTE Evaluators for use by Finished Food Manufacturers.
inSYTE retains GM testing data submitted by ingredient. This provides a valuable single point of entry for all relevant data to be captured in one secure area.
